I recently read an post from Jon Reagan’s Blog that Ubuntu has becoming “equal” to Linux. Personally speaking, Ubuntu’s popularity has been a major factor for consumers to choose linux as an alternative operating system for their computers in place of Windows or Mac.
Also other Linux distribution didn’t make much of an effort to promote their own respective products because, in my opinion, they don’t want to their product to become more mainstream.
I support Ubuntu progress into becoming a mainstream success because I believe that a Linux system would succeed in the IT industry even though it’s Open Source.

While I run Ubuntu on two of my old laptops and they make nice app serversthat work from inside my house, my dedicated servers all run on RHEL because Red Hat Enterprise will always be my choice for high performance server environments.
Ubuntu is wonderful but as somebody who has been using Linux to power my servers since 1993 and using Unix since the 1980’s, Ubuntu sacrificed high end performance for eas of operation.
Absolutely, Ubuntu is the choice for desktop intalls and it blows Vista away as far as widgets minus the system performance hit.
